Rob Deniel, a prominent young singer-songwriter aged 22, has unveiled his latest project, the "RD Covers" EP, celebrating iconic Original Pilipino Music (OPM) classics. Known for his impressive catalog of original songs like "Puso," "Happy Ending," and "RomCom," Deniel reveals his deep-rooted admiration for Filipino musical heritage which inspired his own songwriting journey.

Deniel credits veteran OPM icons such as Ogie Alcasid, Rey Valera, and Rico Blanco as significant influences during his formative years, often composing on his mobile device. His respect for these artists only grew stronger after meeting them personally in the music industry.

The "RD Covers" EP features live renditions of timeless hits, including Alcasid’s seminal "Nandito Ako," "Ikaw Sana," "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang," and Vehnee Saturno’s classic "Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig?," originally popularized by Jaya. Recorded with his band, the album has received positive reviews, highlighting Deniel’s versatility as both a songwriter and interpreter of OPM’s rich tradition.

Deniel’s passionate performance of "Nandito Ako" at the Wish 107.5 Music Awards showcased his retro-pop style and was met with overwhelming fan enthusiasm, accumulating nearly 60 million views on YouTube.

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate a live showcase at the upcoming "RAAA" concert scheduled for December 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The event’s name represents the collaboration between Rob Deniel, Arthur Nery (known for "Isa Lang"), Adie ("Mahika"), and Amiel Sol ("Sa Bawat Sandali"), all of whom are among today’s top Filipino singer-songwriters. Attendees will experience a mix of original hits and classic OPM numbers performed by these celebrated artists.

In related music news, Spotify’s local daily charts reveal fascinating dynamics. Despite the release of Taylor Swift’s "Life of a Showgirl" album, the Filipino band Cup of Joe’s "Multo" remains at number one. Notably, "Tensionado," a nearly 20-year-old track by Soapdish, holds the third spot. Rob Deniel’s "Nandito Ako" also enjoys notable streaming success.

The current Spotify Daily Chart features an eclectic mix of Filipino and international artists, demonstrating the vibrant diversity and enduring appeal of the local music scene alongside global hits.
