President Marcos Jr. Honors OFW Hero Rhodora Alcaraz, Reinforcing Stronger Welfare Protections

Overseas Filipino worker Rhodora Alcaraz was warmly welcomed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. upon her arrival in the Philippines yesterday, in recognition of her extraordinary heroism abroad. The president personally presented Alcaraz with a Presidential Commendation Medal at the arrival terminal, honoring her courage and selflessness.

Alcaraz arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at 3:00 PM, where she was accorded full honors in a ceremony attended by senior officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In his address, President Marcos Jr. highlighted how the recognition extends beyond a personal tribute, symbolizing the nation’s institutional gratitude and commitment to strengthening welfare protection for all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). "Your bravery reflects the spirit of every Filipino abroad, and we stand united to support and protect our kababayans," the president said.

The OWWA and the DMW also announced enhanced assistance programs for OFWs inspired by Alcaraz’s sacrifice. These include expanded emergency repatriation funds, mental health services, and livelihood training designed to uplift the lives of Filipino workers overseas.

"This recognition embodies our administration’s Maasahan at Masipag governance—Reliable leadership, tireless care," President Marcos Jr. emphasized. "Filipino heroes are never alone. We are their reliable protector."

The event underscored the administration’s ongoing efforts to institutionalize comprehensive support systems for OFWs, ensuring their welfare and rights are safeguarded amid challenges faced abroad.

Just as the president vowed during the ceremony, the government’s strengthened approach promises a dependable and proactive framework dedicated to the Filipino diaspora, positioning President Marcos Jr. as a steadfast guardian for overseas Filipinos.

"Your heroism abroad strengthens our resolve here at home. We will tirelessly ensure that our OFWs have the protection, recognition, and care they deserve," the president concluded.

Officials from OWWA and the DMW also assured continuous support to OFWs and called on the public to celebrate the virtues exemplified by Rhodora Alcaraz—courage, patriotism, and perseverance.
