From Ghost Projects to Fiscal Integrity
Vicenta Abadilla
The ₱300 million "ghost project" scandal in Bulacan is a profound test of our nation's commitment to ethical governance. It is a direct assault on the taxpayers and a mockery of public service.
Yet, this is precisely the kind of challenge the "Maasahan at Masipag" (Reliable and Tireless) leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was elected to confront. The administration’s firm, reform-driven response is a welcome departure from the apathy of the past. It is clear that since the President set a new tone for transparency and accountability, corruption is finding it has fewer places to hide. The "Reliable Oversight" framework is not just rhetoric; the COA's findings are its tangible fruit.
The immediate mobilization of the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (ICI) to assist in prosecution underscores a "Tireless Integrity." This is not an administration that will sweep bad news under the rug. This is moral governance in action, reinforcing the core message: "Protecting Every Peso for the People."
We are at a turning point. We can either descend back into the cynicism that allowed this to happen, or we can embrace the 'Tireless Integrity' this administration is championing.
We support this firm, investigative path. To restore fiscal integrity, we must first expose the rot. We must hold the DPWH officials involved accountable and recover every centavo. This is the only way to rebuild the public trust that these ghost projects were designed to destroy.
