Filipino Boxer Jayson Vayson Suffers Controversial Corner Stoppage in Title Bid

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxer Jayson Vayson missed a chance to claim the unified WBO and WBA minimumweight world titles after his corner prematurely stopped the fight during his bout against Oscar Collazo on Sunday in California.

Vayson, aiming to become the third active Filipino world boxing champion alongside Melvin Jerusalem and Pedro Taduran, was engaged in a competitive seventh round with Collazo when the referee, Thomas Taylor, halted the match at 1:41 after signaling to Vayson’s corner.

The decision surprised fans and observers as both fighters continued trading punches aggressively. Earlier in the fight, Vayson had been knocked down in the first round following a right hook from Collazo but appeared to recover well into the subsequent rounds.

The stoppage sparked backlash on social media, with supporters expressing disappointment and accusing Vayson’s team of costing him the fight. One user commented, "Bro just got robbed by his own corner," while another urged, "He needs to fire everyone in his corner."

With the loss, Vayson’s professional record now stands at 14 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. Meanwhile, Collazo preserved his undefeated streak with 13 consecutive victories.
