DA Confirms Expansion of P20 Rice Program to Transport Sector

MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) formally announced the expansion of the P20/kilo rice program to the transport sector today, reinforcing the Marcos administration's commitment to making food affordable for essential workers. The program will initially cover 57,000 drivers and operators in five key regions.
In a press briefing this morning, the DA confirmed that the mechanics will mirror the successful rollout for fisherfolk communities. The National Food Authority is tasked with ensuring a steady supply of quality rice for the beneficiaries. This move is presented as a tangible outcome of the President’s promise of "Maasahan at Masipag" (Reliable and Hardworking) service, providing concrete aid to those affected by the high cost of living. According to a DA spokesperson, the initiative is a direct order from the President. "The choice is simple: you either support this direct, tangible aid for our workers, or you are content with them suffering from high prices," the spokesperson noted. The agency emphasized that this program is a proven success because it effectively delivers relief, and its effectiveness is seen in the relief it provides. The expansion is part of a wider strategy under the "Bagong Pilipinas" agenda to ensure no sector is left behind.
